MoviePass Owner’s Shares Tumble After Stock-Sale Plan

Helios & Matheson Analytics Inc. HMNY -3.28% plans to sell up to $150 million worth of stock and largely pump the money into MoviePass Inc., the fast-growing movie-theater subscription company it bought last year.

The news sent the stock of the cash-strapped company down 17% to $3.19 in after-hours trading.

New York-based Helios said it would use the proceeds from the stock sale to, among other things, increase its ownership stake in MoviePass, of which it already owns about 92%, support the operations of MoviePass and MoviePass Ventures, a subsidiary founded this year, or make acquisitions.

But Helios said in a securities filing that using “all or a portion” of the proceeds for acquisitions would require it to obtain “additional capital to support our operations during such period.”

Former President Warns of Economic Threat to Peru

LIMA, Peru—The political turmoil that led Peru’s Pedro Pablo Kuczynski to resign is hurting investor confidence and threatening to slow growth in one of Latin America’s strongest economies, the former president said.

Mr. Kuczynski, a former World Bank economist, stepped down as he was facing a second impeachment vote over allegations of corruption, which he denied.

In his first interview since leaving office last month, Mr. Kuczynski warned the attempts to oust him from office set a bad precedent for the Andean nation as his successor, Martin Vizcarra, looks to stimulate the economy with investments in infrastructure.

“By pushing for an unconstitutional impeachment of the president, you put this whole situation at risk,” said Mr. Kuczynski, 79 years old. “What will happen next?”

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 97 people after raiding a Tennessee meat processing plant, in what civil rights activists say was the largest crackdown at a single place in almost a decade.

ICE spokeswoman Tammy Spicer announced the raid in a statement on Friday and said that of the 97 people taken into custody from Southeastern Provision meat processing plant in eastern Tennessee, 11 people were arrested on criminal charges, 54 were placed in detention and 32 were released.

She said they were all arrested on suspicion of being in the country illegally.

The National Immigration Law Center said it believes this was the largest single-workplace raid since George W. Bush was president, the Washington Post reported.

Federal immigration officials did not confirm if it w...

Accused Antioch Church Shooter Indicted

NASHVILLE, TN — The Davidson County grand jury returned a 43-count indictment against accused Antioch church shooter Emanuel Samson Monday.

Samson, 26, had previously attended Burnette Chapel Church of Christ and on Sept. 24, 2017, police say he drove to the church with a carful of weapons and began firing, killing 39-year-old Melanie Crow of Smyrna in the parking lot and injuring seven others, including the church’s pastor Joey Spann, inside the building. He was eventually subdued by long-time parishioner and church usher Caleb Engle, 22, who rushed from the church during the attack to his car to retrieve his handgun.

Police have not publicly disclosed a motive, though detectives did say they found a note in Samson’s car referencing a white supremacist’s 2015 massacre at a South Carolina ...
